[Chinese/Pinyin/English] Tan Hua Yi Xian Yu Ji Shi (昙花一现雨及时) Love of Thousand Years OST (三千鸦杀) Lyrics

Other titles: A short-lived moment, the rain is timely / San Qian Ya Sha OST / The Killing of Three Thousand Crows OST / (I really don’t know) Flowering briefly like the epiphyllum, the rain is timely (??!)
~ This is honestly the weirdest song I’ve ever translated – Nothing makes sense! But I’ve decided that the lyricist meant for this to be artistic and descriptive, so I’ve tried to make as much sense of it as I could while translating it as literally as I could so that you’ll (maybe) get to experience the beauty and descriptiveness(?) of the song. Also, bracketed words are not actually in the lyrics (only inferred) but I’ve added them so that the whole line will make more sense. ~

yī zuò chéng yī zhǎn dēng qián chéng le xiāng sī
One city, one lamp, sincerity (leads to) a yearning
míng míng zhī zhōng mèng nǐ gòng zhù sān qiān chǐ
In an unseen mystical world, I dream that we built three thousand chi[1] together
fēn fēn xì yǔ chí bǐ àn huā yǒu shǐ
The drizzles slows, the equinox flower blooms
làng jì le shéi fā guò de shì
I’ve roamed the vow someone made

wǒ huì zhuī suí nǐ zhí dào jīn shēng jīn shì
I will follow you till the end of this life
kàn kàn fán huá sì jǐn hé nǐ de yàng zi
To look at the flourishing brocade-like brilliance[2] and your appearance
bàn nǐ lù jǐ chī dàn què lì shǐ
With you even if the journey is insane, the past becomes insignificant
nǎ pà zhuì tiān yá zhǐ chǐ
Even if we’re very close to falling off the ends of the world

cóng yī xiāng yù yī kāi shǐ tí jí de měi gè zì
From our first meeting, from the very beginning, every word that you’ve said
dōu shì zhí shǒu bù lí de yàng zi
I’ve held tightly onto all of them
cóng jīn wǎng hòu nǐ què zǒng huì shān shān lái chí
But from now on, you’ll gradually arrive later
fēi wǔ zhe zhuǎn shùn jí shì
Dancing in the air (before) dying in a flash

tán huā yī xiàn yǔ jí shí yòu shèng kāi de zǐ
Flowering briefly like the epiphyllum[3], the rain is timely, the purple that blooms again
xuàn làn le céng jīng huà zuò shī
Our once splendid (life), that had been turned into a poem
jǐ bài chéng niàn tiān ēn cì dú xiāng yī shēng sǐ
The prayers have been heeded, the gods bestow a favour that reads: together in life or death
rèn yóu guāng yīn bái fà sī
Let the available time (turn our) hair white

(Repeat everything above)

juàn yǒng yuàn shēng lián lǐ zhī
Signifying our desire to become a loving couple[4]

[1] 尺 (chǐ) – Traditional unit of length, equivalent to 0.333 metres or 1.094 feet. (Though I’m not exactly sure what it was they built that spanned about 1km)
[2] The word 繁华 (fán huá) is usually used to describe a flourishing city. In this case, it narrates Jiu Yun’s longing to continue seeing the flourishing cities (that were brilliant like brocade) together with Qin Chuan.
[3] Epiphyllum is the night blooming cactus that only blooms for one night. Refers to a brief existence.
[4] 连理枝 (lián lǐ zhī) – Literal translation: Interlocked tree branches
